I'm back

The best laid plans......

I didn't get to Bulgaria in March, but did get to Romania, Germany, Austria, Holland, Switzerland and Italy. My teenage granddaughter went with me, her first trip to Europe. After arriving in Frankfurt we went to Bad Kreuznach for 2 days and then took couchettes on a night train to Bucharest. As we headed up to Brasov to see Dracula's castle we were put off the train in a small town because the conductor said the train was privately owned and our passes were not valid. We paid, but then he gave us our money back and told us to take another train. It started snowing really hard and everything iced over. By the time we got to Brasov it was impossible to get to the castle, so we went on to Vienna, Lake Constance, Rothenburg ob der Tauber, the Rhein area and on to Holland. Luckily, Keukenhof, the tulip gardens in Amsterdam were in bloom. Dracula's castle, Keukenhof and Venice were the only places my granddaughter had asked to see. We went to Venice, but she liked Germany best. We went to Neuschwanstein Castle by horse and carriage as the bus could not get up the hill in the snow and ice. We finished up the last three days back in Bad Kreuznach where we rented a great apartment near the Kurpark for less than the price of hotels. This was only a 3 week trip, from March 11th til April 1st.
